As I work in the wedding industry I see a
lot of different weddings, and I’ve noticed a few brides opting for a travel
themed wedding. Over time couples visit various places together on their yearly
holiday, or some actually meet when travelling. Travelling is getting more and
more popular and it seems that it is a really fun theme for a wedding. Some
couples choose to base their wedding on a particular country, perhaps one that
is special to them, whereas others just opt for a general travel theme
incorporating all the places they have visited together.
Some of the more obvious travel ideas are
naming the tables after places you’ve been and designing your wedding
stationary based on a plane ticket or passport. These are simple and effective
ideas, but they are just the beginning! Pinterest shows endless ideas for a
travel themed wedding. One of my favourite ideas has to be globes instead of
pom poms – so clever and unique! Pom poms are extremely popular at the moment
with the majority of weddings including some sort of pom pom vibe, so why not
make them travel themed.
Another up and coming aspect of a wedding
is the guest book, or an alternative to this. Traditionally, couples would have
a book for guests to write a message in and sign as a lasting memory of who
attended their special day. Today it seems that having a book is a little
boring and too traditional, and couples are looking to do something unique. It
could be that they use a book of maps as their guestbook to keep in with the theme,
or even better just sign a globe. If you love travelling, you must have a
globe, so why not just customise your globe with your guests signatures – a very
personal and fun idea!
Maps make a lovely pattern and create a
nice colour scheme for a wedding. Another thing taking off in the wedding world
is jars. Brides and grooms are loving jars, whether they are for drinking from,
for putting sweets in or for holding a few flowers. Some people like a plain
glass jar, and others like o decorate them. For a travel themed wedding, cover
the jars with map paper – simple and perfect! Map paper can also be used for
table numbers, bunting, invitations and so much more. I’m not personally a big
traveller myself, but for anyone who is this is a versatile, personal and fun
theme for a wedding. Below are some of my favourite travel wedding ideas, but
take a look at my Pinterest for many more.
Keep an eye out, as I’ll be revealing the
save the dates I designed for my sister’s alpine themed wedding!!
