Today I have been working on a little DIY project for my sister’s wedding. She is getting married next October and the theme she has chosen for her special day is alpine. Her and her fiancé have skied together over the years and as they are having an autumn wedding they wanted something quite rich and wintery. However, they don’t want to mistake the theme for a winter wonderland wedding.
One of the best places for wedding
inspiration is Pinterest. It is full of endless amounts of wedding ideas, and
they found inspiration for their table decorations on there.
We found some white trees from Hobby Craft,
which can be shaped, but they weren’t quite right. The white would make the
tables look very wintery, so we decided to spray the trees with a stone effect
to suit the alpine theme more. Unfortunately, this did not work as well as
hoped and was going to be a very expensive method, as the spray didn’t go very
far. The easiest solution seemed to be paint. It goes a lot further than the
spray, is cheaper and is easier to apply. It was a little time consuming to
paint all of the branches and make sure every part is covered. However, the
outcome is much nicer than the white for the alpine theme. The tone is quite
rich and will blend in well with the plum colour of the wedding, as well as
suiting the season.
The brass wired lights will be wrapped
around main branch, or the trunk, to add some sparkle when the night draws in.
The brassy colour blends in really well with the brown painted onto the tree,
which makes everything look much neater. On the day the trees will be finished
off with clear baubles and origami flowers. Keep an eye out for more posts
showing the baubles and how we made the origami flowers!
