As it’s the 1st of December
tomorrow everyone is starting to get into the Christmas spirit! I have to say I
think it is a tad too early to be completely decking our houses out in
Christmassy decorations, but I’m certainly doing some prep for when I do
decorate. I plan to fill my house with hundreds of folded paper stars and
endless lengths of paper chains!!
I learnt how to make these lovely folded
stars a couple of weeks ago during a Guide camp, and now I can’t stop making
them. Once I have made all my stars I plan to join them altogether to make a
long strip of star bunting to hang round my house. These would also be
beautiful and cheap for any winter brides. Instead of using standard material
bunting, go for a wintery Christmas alternative. Just lovely!
Once folded you can add some sparkle to
your stars, either with glitter or small gems. I’ve gone with a random
selection of colours and have Christmas themed paper for mine, but for winter
weddings the wedding colour could be used for all the stars. This is a fun and
cheap way to add some character to your wedding (or just your house at
Christmas) and once you know how to make them, it is so easy to do!
Follow my instructions below to make your
own paper stars …
1.
You need square bit of paper,
and start with the patterned side facing down.
2.
Fold the paper in half.
3.
Fold up one corner and then
fold it back again, making a good crease.
4.
Fold down the other corner and
fold it back again, creating a crease that looks like a cross.
5.
Fold the opposite corner into
the centre of the crease.
6.
Fold this back onto itself,
making a triangular ice cream cone shape.
7.
Fold the other half in line
with this half.
8.
Fold these back to back.
9.
Cut off the top section,
leaving a triangle.
10. Open this up and you should have a pentagon. If you don’t you’ve
gone wrong!
11. Fold up the bottom so the corners line up with the two creases (look
at image) – then do this on all sides.
12. Fold one side in and the bottom in (look at image)
13. Fold triangle down to the left (look at image) – then repeat on all
sides.
14. Squeeze in all the corners.
15. Lean all corners to one side.
16. Press down and you should have a star shape with a pentagon in the
centre (look at images).
17. Fold each section in half to create the final star.
18. For the fifth section of the star, fold under to finish off.
You should now have a star – not the best
explanation ever, it’s best to look at the images and follow that as best you
can! Happy star making!
