Meeting with the head Hair Stylist - Kirsten Bassett

Today we had a meeting with the head hair stylist for the fashion show and we went through some of her ideas. It is important for the hair to look different and slightly unusual, yet at the same time not taking away from the collections. It is a hard job to get right, and it's lucky we have somebody who specialises in this to help us!

Kirsten Bassett graduated from Southampton Solent University last year with a BA(Hons) Hair and Make Up degree. She agreed to help us out with the show and will be coming up with two hair styles that will be used on the models for the show. She will then guide her team to produce matching styles on each model and make a clean, exciting hair style. Hair styles for catwalk models can be very difficult to style as their is the issue of garments ruining the hair when they are put on. So this has been kept in mind throughout the planning process and Kirsten is going to practice on someone to see how strong the different hairstyles would be.

Today she gave us about four different ideas to look at and she said she can play around with these and work on any areas we didn't like. One design was very textured on top, then the rest of the hair would be flowing behind. This look was quite feminine, which we felt would work well with a lot of the collections that have been designed. The second design was inspired by a milk maid and involves almost all the hair being put into a braid over the top of the head. A couple of sections would then be left to hang down at the sides of the face. The third design was a bob created by clipping the hair under and making a very defined and volumised bob. Down the centre of the head would be three braids to make the look more interesting. This style could be a problem when pulling tops over the models heads, so Kirsten will be playing around with this to see how it would look if it got messed up slightly. The final look was slightly more complicated and can be seen in the images below...

This design involved a lot of braiding and we played around with it during the meeting and came up with a style we all liked. The only problem with this style is the time it might take to do! The fringe section at the front needs to be split properly so that it looks professional and not messy, so this could be an issue.

Overall it was a very successful meeting and Kirsten now has lots of ideas to take away and can work on producing the final designs for the show.
