South Coast Fashion Week

On Friday we went to South Coast Fashion Week in Bournemouth with the Creative Eastleigh team. There were various different brands there promoting themselves and selling products, including two of the previous Enliven designers. Throughout the day various fashion shows were taking place, and we had the chance to see the House of Fraser show and the Bournemouth University graduate showcase. This was a great opportunity for us as it gave us some inspiration for the Southampton Solent Graduate Fashion Show. The catwalk was black and was quite an odd shape - it was more like a rectangular stage with a little bit at the front pointing out for the models to pose. The choreography for the models was also quite different and complex. Generally two models would walk out together to the front of the stage then they would split and stand at the back of the stage until the whole collection was out together. Once all the pieces from one collection had been show the whole group stood together to show the collection as one, which was a nice idea as it enabled the links between all the garments to be seen clearly. Some of the collections created by the Bournemouth University fashion design graduates were amazing, and we will expect no less from the Southampton Solent design graduates.

This was the Creative Eastleigh stand which will be at the event all weekend. The stand had a couple of designs from two of the designers from the sorting office in Eastleigh. There were a lot of posters advertising all the things that Creative Eastleigh does and various leaflets for people to take away and find out more. As Eastleigh is quite close to Bournemouth it was an ideal place to promote themselves as well as promoting the Enliven Fashion show and the Southampton Solent Rehearsal on Saturday 7th June.

The House of Fraser show had a mixture of menswear and womenswear, and a mixture of casual wear, formal wear and swimwear.

These are some images of the Bournemouth University fashion design graduates collections. These photos were taken when the models had all walked and then grouped together at the end to show off the whole collection, and it is much nicer to see all the garments as one. It is very easy to tell that the pieces are all from the same collection by looking at the colours and patterns used.

One of the main things that we didn't like from the graduate showcase was the music. It was club style music and each song was played through a couple of times before putting a new song on. There were also some quiet points whilst waiting for a new song which meant you could hear the models shoes clumping on the staging and it just seemed a little unfinished. The catwalk was also an odd shape and ours will look very different to this, however overall the show was good and we enjoyed watching another graduate fashion show to give us some ideas. We also managed to find one of the models after and asked if she'd like to model at the Southampton Solent show - fingers crossed she says yes!
