Save the Dates and Invitation Ideas

The above save the date has been send out for the show and now it's time to produce the invitations. The final invitation will be sent out at the end of April, and we are currently putting together some initial ideas. The overall theme for the show is very simplistic and we are sticking to a very monochrome colour scheme. However, as seen in a previous post, our logo is very colourful and does not connect with the black and white theme. The reason for this was to allow more colour to be added to the final promotional material to make it more eye catching and fun. However, when creating the save the date, the monochrome look was quite powerful and strong. We want our graphics for the show to be interesting and unique, and have a quirky feel to them, rather than being generic.

When it came to sparking up ideas for the invitations we tried to include an essence of colour, either by picking out small aspects in colour, or using the logo. It has been a hard process to create an invite that excites us, and if we don't feel excited then I'm sure the audience won't! Various designs have been played round with to create the desired look, and we now have three very different invites. Now we just need to decide which one to use!

Design One

For the first design, shown above, we tried to include the fashion show logo in the invitation. Using the full logo did not look right, therefore we spread it across the whole invite, cutting off some of the top and bottom. The opacity was also turned down slightly to make the colours a little less overpowering, and to stop the colours taking away from the text. The black lines at the top add some more depth to the invite and they also allow one line of text to be written in white, giving a nice contrast. The university logo and the sponsors logo are placed at the bottom of the invite so that they don't take away from the rest of the design. Overall, this is a nice design and we would be very happy to send this out as an invitation. It is nice to include the final logo within the invitations as well, as it ties everything in well.

Design Two

For the next design we tried something a bit different. The black and white illustration was created using Photoshop and connects well with the fashion show theme. Having the illustration in black and white carries on the monochrome theme, however the two strips of colour bring some of the logo into the invitation. The pink and purple colours were colour picked from the final logo, which would link the logo in nicely with the invitation. The black strip is still included in the invite to carry on with the theme from the save the date and the overall monochrome look.

Design Three

The final design is completely in keeping with the monochrome theme of the show. The shapes give it a bold graphic look and quite a quirky feel, which is something we really want to achieve with the promotional material. Perhaps all black and white for the final invite is too simplistic and not eye catching enough. It is very hard to decide between the three designs as they are all very different and all have their own unique style. What do you all think? Can you help us out with deciding which one we should use for the show?
