Enliven Fashion Project - Work in Progress Meeting

On Friday we had a work in progress meeting with the Enliven Project Fashion Designers to see what they will be making for the fashion show on Saturday 7th June. It has been a good few weeks since the designers collected materials and garments from their chosen charities, so it was a great opportunity to have a sneak peak of what's to come. All the designers have completely different styles and everyones ideas are unique and varied, which makes us very excited for the show. It's slowly creeping closer, the stress is kicking in, but so is the rush of excitement!

The first designer has chosen to use windows as her main inspiration, cutting out blocks from garments and overlapping materials. The shorts shown above have patterned fabrics placed on top in the shape of windows, and this is the general theme used throughout her pieces.

The next designer collected a lot of ties from her charity shop and in this outfit she has decided to produce the whole ensemble using just ties. The skirt is formed of ties tied together, which makes a zigzag effect on the bottom edge. The band of the skirt is also made using ties as well as the shoulder piece. Overall this gives a great effect and shows the task of up cycling perfectly.

The same designer then used an old Monsoon dress and a pair of curtains that she found in the charity shop to make this next outfit. The bold pink with the pretty floral print is a brilliant match, these two outfits are going to look great on the catwalk.

The next designer has gone for a more glamorous theme for her garment and has opted to make an amazing ball gown from material she found from her chosen charity shop.

This designer has been extremely creative with her materials and clothes she sourced and used fabric dye in a spray bottle to make a speckled effect on the dress and the inside of the jacket. She has then made a sweet little chiffon top to place over the dress and finally created a reversible jacket. One side has the bold green colour, with the option of having speckled lapels. The other side is the speckled effect matching the dress underneath creating a suit style.

The next designer showed some pictures of what she has been creating and her style is extremely unique. She has created some incredible lines in the fabrics and built some different shapes to make a very individual looking top.

The next outfit is created by a designing duo, who also happen to be mum and daughter. They fell in love with these printed tropical bird curtains they found in the charity shop. They made this suit using the curtain fabric and then made some accessories using the tropical bird from the material. The necklace and bracelets have been made with cut out birds, and the hat has a big bird on top of it to tie the whole outfit together. They have written a story to go along with their outfits, and the story is about the tropical bird found in the fabric. The daughter part of the duo is an illustrator and will be illustrating the story onto some of the garments.

The next designer is inspired by the Victorian era and has also used a pair of curtains to create this victorian style outfit. She has edged the bottom of the skirt with the header of the curtains and individually sewed all the hooks to the header to make the outfit look more upcycled, connecting well with the overall theme. The jacket was initially a pink tweed jacket, and she added the curtain fabric to match the top with the skirt.

The next designer had been playing around with a lot of different fabrics to create her final pieces for the show. She is planning on using a lot of black materials but adding this bright, popping pink!

The next designer has an extremely quirky style and has produced some interesting and exciting pieces. The jumpsuit looks great with the fur top taken from a fur coat and print bottoms, then the next pieces have been created using expandable foam, pearls and garments found from the charity shop. They are really fun pieces!

The final designer is a jewellery designer and has began making a piece using coins he collected from the charity shop. He spent hours drilling holes to attach all the coins together and it was definitely worth the time as this piece is eye catching to say the least.

All the ideas emerging from the designers are really interesting and each designer has managed to transform fabrics or garments into something completely different. It is inspiring to see how creative people can be and to see the variety of things that can be produced from old fabric and clothing. The Enliven show is set to be a very exciting one!
